The world of Ev'ren

Picture
Ev'ren is a rather temperate planet, covered with vast, lush forests and plains. Little water covers its surface in the form of oceans, so there are only large, scattered lakes and rivers. Due to the thick atmosphere and the angle of the planet's rotation, most of the surface is under almost constant twilight for a majority of the year, causing the plethora of species living on it to adapt to living in low-light conditions, such as the Tarael with their wonderful eyesight and extreme sensitivity to vibrations and movement.

With the advancement of the Tarael, much of its land has been cultivated and built upon, with some protected areas and preserves still in their natural, luscious state of forests and plant life. Though the Tarael are easily an advanced race well-capable of space travel, they have a defined respect for the natural beauty of their planet, and strive to keep many of its forests and lands as close to natural as possible.

The Districts of Ev'ren

There are a total of 10 districts on Ev'ren. These districts have origins far back in the Tarael's culture to when they were little more than primitive tribes. Though the tribes long ago were only loosely connected with one another, the modern day districts are heavily dependent on one another. Each district has a unique set of services or products that it trades with the others, but there is a heavy level of loyalty and variety found across the ten districts. Though there isn't any modern difference to these districts besides what their main item of trade and production is, they used to have very stark differences in the appearances of the Tarael that were born and lived in each, with subspecies different enough to know what district their family was from simply from appearance alone. It's also said that each district will birth new generations of Tarael that have specific mental and physical abilities, though it is mostly lore in the modern era.

District loyalty may be extremely important to older or more traditional of their race, younger Tarael are less so; they are far more fluid and base their livelihood on more than bloodlines or pseudo-tribal loyalty to each district.

The capitol district of the planet, Credea, is home to the most powerful district family, which itself is lead by the Tarake, the equivalent of the planet's Queen. It is often seen in myth and lore as the first district and the place that all Tarael were born from after the formation of their planet, and therefore is the most financially, socially and politically important district.

Districts are not to be confused with cities--there can be multiple cities found in each district, so they should be considered to be similar to a state or a country of their own right, though they all fall under the union of the Tarael species.

Picture
Credea is known as the District of Creation for a simple reason--it was the first formal district recognized during the formative era that lead to the modern-day Tarael. In lore, many religious or spiritual Tarael believe it is also the birth place for the first tribes that the Tarael later strayed from, a literal birthing place for their species. Today it is known as the capital, having the most financial, social and cultural influence over any other district. Though there is no specific product or service that it offers, it is the home to the Tarake, the equivalent to the planet's Queen, and their extended family.

As Credea is found within the southern forests of Ev’ren, many Tarael that hail in their bloodline from this district are often shades of green or brown with a keen sense of balance from their ancestor’s clear skill in hunting from the tree-tops. They’ve also developed a sturdy set of claws on both their hands and feet, another homage to when they would need to often climb the tall trunks of the trees around them.

Many of its lesser cities are found in the forests, their architecture carefully ingrained with the environment so that much of the cities themselves grow up into the treetops. Credea may not have a production of agriculture or trade, but it is a popular spot to watch a rising sun from many of its tree-top observation domes, an event that happens once every several years. The event is highly prized within the Tarael culture, much like a solar or lunar eclipse on earth, and it attracts many travelers for the spectacle, which can last from a couple hours to a couple weeks.

Sweest'a
is a relatively small district located in one of the thickest portions of Ev'ren's many forests. As the name may suggest, it's prime export is wood and wood products, but it also contributes as the largest proprietor of natural parks and patches of protected wildlife. In the modern day of the Tarael, much of their planet has been built upon, but there are many current laws and regulations in place to protect much of the planet's most needed natural resources and animals--much to the credit of the district politicians of Sweest'a.Many believe that Sweest’a formed from the early tribes of Tarael that, when threatened with famine as their prey dwindled in the southern forests, simply moved north. The forests in Sweest’a do not grow nearly as tall as those in the district of Credea, so the architecture of the cities within Sweest’a are largely ground-based.

Tarael that hail in their bloodlines from Sweest’a are a range of greens, browns and auburns, their bodies carefully attuned between hunting from the treetops and upon the ground.

Vash was the second district formally recognized, and has become the vast epicenter of technological advance and cultural shift. Due to trade with other planets and races across the galaxy, the Tarael have become incredibly learned scientists and scholars, leading to many breakthroughs of various technologies within Vash. Their biggest export is technology and other such things, and is the second largest district on Ev'ren.

Vash is less of a trait-laden district, primarily as it’s formation is more from the gathering of several olden tribes and being the most recently formed. Though the distrct family of Vash are known for their tall, slender forms and ash-colored fur, the residents of the district are much more varied in appearance, though most of them all have a mutual love of knowledge and passion for advancement. Vash is also the center of one of the most prestigious schools on Ev’ren, known to have taught many of the finest minds that still shine on in their history.

The cities within Vash are somewhat varied in looks, as it is scattered across the dividing lines of several environment types, but they are all as modern-looking as they are developed around the natural landscape.

Many districts would not be able to support themselves if it wasn't for the hard workers within the district of Taldiu. The main export of this district is various rocks, gemstones and ores, largely due to the fact that it was founded within the valley of a large, rich mountain range. It holds less political power than many other districts of Ev'ren, but it is certainly considered one of the most important if the Tarael wish to keep their current fanciful level of life the same.

Tareal whose bloodlines begin in Taldiu often exhibit large, firm frames of bodies, forms that had grown used to life climbing through the vast mountains found west of the Vash District. They are usually darker in color, their fur somewhat thicker in order to contend with the often-falling temperatures high in the mountains.

Many of the cities within Taldiu have been long-built into the mountains and hils themselves, though there are many sprawling suburbs of sort that leak out into the valleys themselves, but their culture has always been centered around the mountains and the gifts they provide.

Karinu is one of two districts known for it's high-capacity growth of vegetables and other such vegetation, though Karinu itself has found a particular niche in also making huge advancements in the botanical and medicinal fields of science. Many Tarael who wish to become healers in any capacity will often seek Karinu as a passage of rites into their calling, learning from some of the most talented and experienced doctors and healers of all the districts. Karinu was founded in a vast plainsland, so many of the Tarael original from the district are often shades of green, gold and beige, their bodies accustomed long ago to sprinting through the tall, thick grass, though currently are more used for the careful, slow growth of farmland.

Due to a dim sun and a thick atmosphere, much of Ev'ren is cast in twilight for a lot of the year, but Edoimas is a district known for it's placement allowing it the most sunlight than the others. It was founded as a spiritual or religious epicenter more than anything else, but also finds itself surrounded by rich lands to plant a plentiful amount of crops as well. For any Tarael that seeks history or knowledge of any religious or spiritual sort, they often seek out Edoimas to learn from some of the most vastly-kept libraries and archives of their species history.

Many of the knowledge-centers known in the Tarael culture have their home in the larger cities within Edoimas, though there are also a plentiful number of shrines dedicated to a multitude of deities as well. Though it is not architecturally inclined as Credea is in the viewing of the rare yet beautiful sunrise, Edoimas’ many cities are some of the most naturally bathed in light when it happens, with many having written poetry and songs about their experiences of the sunrise while in the cities. In fact, within the largest city of Edoimas, there are several sculptures and spiritual places of worship that were specifically built in order to ‘capture’ the light when it comes from the rising sun each season.

Though there is no set appearance for Tarael that come from Edoimas, there is a large number of spiritual, religious and scholarly leaders that live within the district. Most who seek out the knowledge of Edoimas do so because they yearn to seek some form of spiritual enlightenment, or simply to try and heal from a dark past.

The Tarael don't like to swim normally, plain and simple. In fact, they had evolved originally to hunt in the trees, with legs and tails particularly designed to keep them well above the ground while they hunted, not in the water and certainly not in any rivers. Nevertheless as generations lived beside the rivers edge, so did the curiosity and influence grow from the Tarael that lived their. Aguea hosts some of the most aquatically-apt Tarael, known for their talent for swimming, fishing and crafting beautiful trinkets and items from materials only found in the lakes and rivers that are scattered across the planet.

Aguea is situated over one of the largest lakes of Ev’ren, and boasts a colorful community of Tareal who have taken up a more mariner lifestyle, or simply those who have learned to love the peace of the water’s edge. Over many generations, Tarael who’s bloodline hails from Aguea can be noted by their ashen or slate blue fur, typically shorter and sleeker than others for a better ease of swimming. Though their bodies are obviously still not entirely evolved for swimming, many from Aguea certainly seem to have at least more of a natural knack for the hobby.

Kaljia is also a smaller district, largely made of small tribes who had banned together in some of the more peaceful parts of the planet. Since there were little forests, the Tarael there adapted instead to hunt with speed alone, and are known for their prowess and their rather odd export: sports. The most loved of physical sports all originate from Kaljia, from Tarael who developed very toned and lithe bodies from their need to hunt differently from their breathren.

Located nearest to Karinu, Kaljia and it’s original tribes had been some of the first to develop such pastime of sports, and though many different kinds were quick to die out, one in particular is still extremely popular with the Tarael of the district. Known simply as Malwen, it is a sport played in a similar fashion as both football and soccer. The goal of game not only is to make a larger number of points, but it also serves as a social game--showing off one’s prowess and physical ability is almost as important as winning itself.

Much larger than Karinu, Yaa'sena is the main exporter of grown food and farmed animals. They are closely related to Karinu in terms of export and bloodlines, with many once claiming that Karinu shouldn't be called a formal district because it had most likely broken off from Yaa'sena many generations ago.

Due to this close connection, most Tarael cannot be accurately pinpointed as being from the old tribes of Yaa’sena or Karinu, though there are still plenty who hold bloodlines in enough esteem to attempt nevertheless. Yaa’sena’s primary exports are less for medicinal needs and more for the needs of food and various products farmed from the food and the animals that they herd.

Due to the Tarael being so cautious and withdrawn when dealing with other worlds and races, Shun'ja is the first district many outsiders experience first, not their capital. Because of this, Shun'ja is a huge and bustling district held up by trading and crafts. This also means that it is the biggest blending pot of cultures and thoughts, with many young Tarael flocking to Shun'ja to meet outsiders and spread their philosophies on life. It is also the hub for transportation off of the planet, with the most people moving in and out of Ev'ren through this district alone. In the modern era, many argue that Shun'ja, not Credea, should be considered Ev'ren's capital.

Because of the constant intercultural trade and development, Shun’ja has lost much of it’s original ‘identity’ that it once had generations ago. Though many older, more traditionally-inclined Tarael might hail this as negative, many younger of their kind see it as something to be celebrated, making their mark on the diverse cities in forms of music, art, entertainment and other cultural aspects.
